In the Chronic Disease area, researchers track the epidemiology, management and outcomes of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In the area of Pharmacotherapy, cutting-edge epidemiologic methods are used to examine the real-world use, safety and effectiveness of prescription drugs and drug insurance policies.

2023-25: Merit Award, Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, University of Toronto, awarded to Dr. Ashwin Sankar. The Merit Awards Program supports the development of talented investigators and fosters the sustained growth of research capacity in the department. The program’s goal is to promote discoveries that will improve the lives of our patients.
2024: Awarded to Dr. Muhammad Mamdani by CDA. The medal marks the 35th anniversary of CDA. These 10 medals recognize individuals whose commitment and dedication have helped maintain health technology assessment as a vital component of Canada’s health systems.
2024: Awarded to Dr. Mina Tadrous by CDA. The award recognizes rising stars in HTA who, as their careers develop, have the potential to be leaders in the field.
2024: Awarded to Dr. Andrea Gershon. The award recognizes an individual who has made outstanding scientific contributions in research methodologies that can be applied to lung diseases, critical illness, or sleep disorders.
2023: Awarded to Dr. Lee Fidler for his contributions of notable merit to the advancement of healthcare quality.
2022: Awarded to Dr. Jonathan Zipursky by the International Society of Obstetric Medicine for the best research presentation at the combined ISOM/NASOM 2022 Congress.
