ICES is a non-governmental, non-commercial entity, formed under the laws of Ontario, Canada. We are a registered charity, operating on a not-for-profit basis.
Accuracy
We do our best to provide useful information on our website, however, we cannot guarantee that the information you have access to is complete, accurate, up-to-date or otherwise reliable for any particular purpose.
Location
Even though you may access our website from anywhere in the world, our company only operates in Ontario, Canada. Legal proceedings relating to our website or its content may only be brought in the courts located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Cybersecurity
We are an organization that exists for the public good. Cybersecurity is critical to our mission. We do our part to protect the cybersecurity of our servers. Please do your part too, by ensuring that your device security is working well and up-to-date, while accessing our website and its content.
Intellectual Property
We post valuable and important content on our website because transparency is important to us. As between website users and ICES, ICES reserves all copyright with respect to the website content, so that we can help to manage the interests of the various stakeholders involved.
Intellectual property discussions are all about balancing creators’ rights and users’ rights. The content on our website is subject to the intellectual property interests of multiple stakeholders (e.g. funders, data providers, knowledge contributors, authors).
When it comes to publicly accessible content, ICES does its best to respect and uphold the fair dealing test as described by the Supreme Court of Canada in judicial decisions such as CCH Canadian Ltd. v. Law Society of Upper Canada, 2004 SCC 13 (CanLII), [2004] 1 SCR 339, and we expect that you do too.
