Health Equity at ICES
ICES’ 2023-2026 Strategic Plan supports research priorities in health equity and the social determinants of health. By leveraging equity-informed approaches, we will facilitate relevant and vital research and analytics for a positive health system, policy change, and better health for all.
Guidance Document and Framework for Anti-Racist Approaches to Research and Analytics
This document is intended to guide scientists, trainees, and staff on the appropriate use and governance of race and related data to ensure ethical and appropriate research and analytics.
Please note that this guidance does not examine Indigenous identity and data with Indigenous identifiers. ICES has a distinct approach and policies with respect to Indigenous data and works directly with Indigenous partners to ensure its use is appropriate.
This Guidance Document is a living document that will be updated periodically in response to ongoing organizational learning and evolving community needs.

Through the effects of racism, the social construct of race continues to have real and devastating consequences on health and access to health care. Race and related data can expose these inequities when used appropriately and with purpose.
