ICES researchers recognized as outstanding leaders in health technology assessment
Congratulations to ICES adjunct scientist Mina Tadrous and affiliate scientist Muhammad Mamdani on being recognized by Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA) as outstanding leaders in health technology assessment (HTA).
Dr. Tadrous is a recipient of the Dr. Maurice McGregor Award for a Rising Star in Health Technology Assessment. He is at the forefront of research that has led to meaningful change at both the policy and patient level. At the Ontario Drug Policy Research Network (ODPRN), he played a key role in implementing a novel framework for drug class reviews that enhanced standard HTA methods with patient and citizen perspectives and real-world evidence. Dr. Tadrous’ research interests lie in developing real-world evidence to inform provincial and national drug policy and the post-marketing surveillance of medications.
Dr. Mamdani, one of ten 35th Anniversary Medal recipients, is being recognized for his many contributions to drug safety, pharmacoeconomics, and the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics in health systems. The medal recognizes individuals whose commitment and dedication have helped maintain HTA as a vital component of Canada’s health systems. Dr. Mamdani founded the ODPRN, a network of researchers linked directly with policymakers at the Ontario Ministry of Health to maximize research uptake in informing drug policy decisions.
