ICES scientist Dr. Angela Colantonio guest edits Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation special issue
ICES scientist Dr. Angela Colantonio is the guest editor of a special February issue of the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, which focuses on sex, gender and traumatic brain injury (TBI) to address the gaps in research and practice related to TBI.
In the commentary for this issue, Dr. Colantonio explains that it is “increasingly necessary to address the effect of sex and gender on all aspects of TBI to produce better scientific knowledge and provide more effective sensitive healthcare to women and men, boys and girls.”
Dr. Colantonio co-authored two papers in this issue, entitled “Determinants of admission to inpatient rehabilitation among acute-care survivors of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury: a prospective population-wide cohort study” and “Sex-specific predictors of inpatient rehabilitation outcomes after traumatic brain injury.” She is founding chair and co-chair of the Girls and Women with ABI Task Force of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), which produced the collection of articles in this supplement of Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
