ICES is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Susan Bronskill as Chief Science Officer.
An accomplished scientist, mentor and leader, Dr. Bronskill has helped shape ICES’s scientific direction and has long championed research that informs policy and improves care.
Her connection to the organization goes back to its earliest days: she began as one of ICES’s original summer students and joined as a scientist in 2002. As founding Program Leader of the Life Stage Research Program, she helped build one of the organization’s flagship programs while leading a highly productive independent research program on care for older adults.
A national expert in health services and policy research and pharmacoepidemiology, Dr. Bronskill focuses on improving quality of care, medication use, health service use and outcomes for older adults, particularly people living with dementia. Working closely with policymakers and health system partners, she studies how patients move between parts of the health system and leads research to strengthen dementia care and health system performance.
Dr. Bronskill is also a professor at the University of Toronto in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Division of Epidemiology at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and a scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute.
“Susan brings an extraordinary combination of scientific excellence and leadership. Having grown with ICES as a trainee, scientist and program leader, she understands our impact from every vantage point: the data, the science and the people who make it possible. Throughout, she has advanced our mission while mentoring the next generation of researchers. I’m delighted that she will lead our science and look forward to the impact she will have in this role.”
— Dr. Astrid Guttmann, CEO, ICES
Dr. Bronskill succeeds Dr. Guttmann, who served as Chief Science Officer from 2014 to 2025.
ICES looks forward to Dr. Bronskill’s continued contributions in this new leadership role.
