Senior Adjunct Scientist (Full Status) ICES Central Populations & Public Health Research Program
Stephen Hwang is a physician in General Internal Medicine and Scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto. He is Director of the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions and holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Homelessness, Housing, and Health.
Dr. Hwang’s research focuses on health equity, with an emphasis on homelessness, housing, and access to healthcare among people who are unhoused. His work examines housing as a key determinant of health and evaluates interventions and policies to improve health outcomes and reduce chronic homelessness, informing both clinical practice and public policy.
He is a professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, with additional appointments at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. Dr. Hwang earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health.
