ICES brings together the best and brightest scientific talent. Many of our scientists are internationally recognized in their fields and receive national and international awards and recognition for their important work.

University of Toronto’s Department of Medicine Research Award

2015: Presented to Dr. Jack Tu. The award, established in 1989, recognizes a member of the Department of Medicine who has demonstrated sustained excellence as a scientist and role model over several years.

American Thoracic Society Early Career Achievement Award

2015: The American Thoracic Society (ATS) Assembly on Behavioral Science and Health Services Early Career Achievement Award recipient Andrea Gershon for her scientific contributions in the area of lung disease.

Novartis Oncology Young Canadian Investigators Award

2015: Awarded to Dr. Jacques Raphael for the paper "Effect of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and stromal CD68 on trastuzumab benefit in early stage HER2 positive breast cancer."

Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research

2015: Awarded to Dr. Samuel Siu by University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry for excellence in academic endeavour, with emphasis on excellent performance in research.

Tier 1 Research Chair Award

2015-2019: Awarded to Dr. Greg Knoll by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa in Clinical Transplantation Research

Trudy Bush Fellowship for Cardiovascular Research in Women’s Health

2015: Awarded to Dr. Sonia Grandi by the American Heart Association

Institute Community Support Travel Award

2015: Awarded to Dr. Tetyana Kendzerska for the project "Patient income level and purchase of continuous positive airway pressure treatment among patients with obstructive sleep apnea: administrative claim-based analyses." This award is offered in partnership with the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health.

CIHR Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Award

2015: Awarded to Dr. Jessica Widdifield for the project "An international integrative approach to leveraging electronic health databases for outcomes research in rheumatology"

US National Kidney Foundation International Distinguished Medal

2015: Awarded to Dr. Amit Garg. The medal honours the achievement of individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of kidney disease and extended the goals of the National Kidney Foundation. The foundation president presents medals each year to recognize the accomplishments of individuals through their clinical work, roles in academia, scientific discoveries or volunteer work in organizations similar to the foundation.
