Dr. Laupacis is a general internist and a scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael's Hospital. He is a professor at the University of Toronto in both the Department of Medicine and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. His research interests are broad; he has published over 315 peer-reviewed articles, covering a variety of topics in clinical epidemiology, health services research, health technology assessment and health policy. Recently he has become interested in engaging the public about healthcare issues (he founded the website www.healthydebate.ca), and he holds a Canada Research Chair in Health Policy and Citizen Engagement. He is also a member of the Institute Advisory Board for the CIHR's Institute of Health Services and Policy Research. He has served on numerous academic and governmental advisory committees. Currently he is the board chair for Health Quality Ontario (since 2013) and is also a board member of Cancer Care Ontario (since 2011). He also previously served on the Alberta Health Services Board (2008-2010). In 2011, Dr. Laupacis was awarded the annual Health Services Research Advancement Award from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation and was also named the Justice Emmett Hall Laureate in 2010.
