Research Question/Objectives: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease characterized by progressive dyspnea, chronic cough, and/or excess sputum production. COPD is the seventh leading contributor to morbidity and the third leading cause of death worldwide in 2019.
Objectives:
Primary objectives:
- Characterize patients with COPD at the time of their first exacerbation on demographic and clinical characteristics
- Describe the HCRU incurred by patients with COPD during a 12-month period after an exacerbation (i.e., moderate exacerbation and severe exacerbation).
Secondary objectives:
- Stratify the primary objectives by exacerbation type (i.e., moderate exacerbation versus severe exacerbation)
- Stratify total HCRU incurred by patients with COPD during a 12-month period after an exacerbation (i.e., moderate exacerbation and severe exacerbation) pre- and post- COVID (based on exacerbation index date).
Exploratory objective:
- Pending the sample size aged 40-65, the results may be stratified by <65, >65 or those <65 may be excluded from the cohort.
Status: In Progress
