Fellow of The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS)

2013: Dr. Michael Carter elected as Fellow of INFORMS for being a pioneer in the application of the methodologies of Operations Research and Management Sciences to the healthcare sector, and for his contributions to this field including improved service delivery, reduced costs, and increased efficiency.

Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering

2012: Dr. Michael Carter elected as Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering. Fellows of the Academy are nominated and elected by their peers, in view of their distinguished achievements and career-long service to the engineering profession.

Canadian Operational Research Society Practice Prize

2009: Awarded by the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) to Dr. Michael Carter for "Modelling the Future of the Canadian Cardiac Surgery Workforce Using Systems Dynamics"

The purpose of the prize is to recognize outstanding operational research (O.R.) practice and to focus attention on O.R. and its applications by practitioners from Canada by attracting quality papers to the CORS National Conference.

2004/05 Innovators’ Challenge Competition

2005: Dr. Michael Carter was part of a team awarded first prize in the 2004/05 Innovators' Challenge Competition held by the Business Association of Stanford Engineering Students (BASES).
