Topic: Investigating risks associated with viral respiratory infections (VRI) in patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD)

Learning objectives

  1. Compare the burden of adverse outcomes following common VRIs (i.e., due to influenza and respiratory syncytial virus) among patients with varying CMCs in Ontario, using a population-based retrospective cohort study.
  2. Identify predictors of first and recurrent cardiopulmonary hospitalizations and death among patients across North America at high risk of cardiovascular events via a recurrent events analysis of the INfluenza Vaccine to Effectively Stop cardioThoracic Events and Decompensated heart failure (INVESTED) pragmatic trial.
  3. Investigate which seasonal influenza vaccine strategy is associated with the best reduction in adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with CVD, using a Bayesian network meta-analysis of global influenza vaccine CVOTs.
