Research Question/Objectives: This study aims to describe a cohort of people living with overweight or obesity (Body Mass Index [BMI] ≥ 27 kg/m2), their treatment patterns received for overweight/obesity management, and to characterize the burden of overweight and obesity overall and by the presence and absence of comorbid cardio renal metabolic (CRM) diseases, including type 2 diabetes (T2D), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and chronic kidney disease (CKD), in Ontario, Canada.
Research objectives:
- To describe the overall demographic and clinical characteristics of persons living with overweight or obesity and their matched control groups (i.e., controls matched on CRM disease status and general population controls).
- To describe the overall patterns of prescribed pharmacological and non-pharmacologic treatments˄ (incl., nutrition therapy, physical activity prescription, psychological and/or behavioural therapy, and bariatric surgery) received for overweight/obesity management among persons living with overweight or obesity and their matched control groups (i.e., controls matched on CRM disease status and general population controls).
- To describe the overall annual healthcare resource utilization (HCRU), associated direct healthcare costs incurred by persons living with overweight or obesity and their matched control groups (i.e., controls matched on CRM disease status and general population controls).
- To estimate the overall risk of all-cause mortality among persons living with overweight or obesity and their matched control groups (i.e., controls matched on CRM disease status and general population controls).
