Dr. Michael Green is the President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean, and CEO of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSM University), where he is also a Professor, Family Medicine in the Division of Clinical Sciences. He brings a wealth of leadership experience from his time as Chair of Family Medicine at Queen’s University and as the 70th President of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Before joining NOSM University, Dr. Green held the Brian Hennen Chair and led the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University from 2017 to 2023. He also served as the inaugural Chair in Applied Health Economics and Health Policy at Queen’s and directed the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research. Additionally, he holds an adjunct research appointment at Queen’s University and is a Senior Adjunct Scientist at ICES.
Dr. Green’s dedication to healthcare spans clinical practice, research, and policy advocacy. He practiced family medicine for over eight years in Moose Factory, Ontario, where he also served as Chief of Staff. His research is widely recognized, focusing on primary care, quality of care, equity in health, and Indigenous health, with over $40 million in grant funding and more than 100 publications.
In recognition of his contributions to health policy, Dr. Green was elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2018. His expertise has been sought on numerous professional and government committees, including advisory roles during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario’s Wait Times Expert Panel, and Diabetes Canada’s working group on Indigenous health.
Dr. Green completed his medical training at the University of British Columbia, followed by a Family Medicine residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He later earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
With an extensive history of leadership, research, and clinical service, Dr. Green continues to shape healthcare policy and education at NOSM University and beyond.
