Dr. Silver is a professor of medicine in the Division of Neurology at the University of Toronto. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1978 and completed a neurology residency in Toronto in 1983. After a two-year fellowship at the Cerebrovascular Research Centre at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, Dr. Silver returned to Toronto to be on staff at the Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Silver is currently the medical director of the Toronto West Stroke Region.
Dr. Silver’s academic interests are in the areas of stroke management and improving stroke care delivery through regional organized care. He has been involved in the implementation and monitoring of many clinical trials in stroke. He is a past board member of the Canadian Stroke Consortium and past theme leader of the Canadian Stroke Network. He was the founder and is currently a co-principal investigator of the Ontario Stroke Registry (formerly, the Registry of the Canadian Stroke Network). He also founded and is currently the medical director of Ontario’s Telestroke program.
