Eric Benchimol

Senior Core Scientist (Full Status) ICES Central Life Stage Research Program

Biography

Eric Benchimol is a pediatric gastroenterologist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) IBD Centre, and an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the School of Epidemiology, Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is also director of the Health Information Technology Program at the CHEO Research Institute, and a core scientist the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. In addition to treating children with IBD, Dr. Benchimol conducts epidemiology, outcomes, and health services research in patients with IBD using health administrative data, as well as for children with other chronic diseases. He chairs the Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (CanGIEC), which conducts national research on IBD and other chronic illnesses. He is supported by a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Association of Gastroenterology, and Crohn’s and Colitis. Dr. Benchimol also co-chairs the steering committee for the RECORD statement for the REporting of studies Conducted using Observational Routinely collected Data (an extension to the STROBE reporting guidelines).
