The Bill Silverman Prize

2017: Awarded to Drs. Laura Rosella and David Henry for the paper “Risk of bias in systematic reviews of non-randomized studies of adverse cardiovascular effects of thiazolidinediones and cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors: application of a new Cochrane risk of bias tool” by Cochrane at its annual summit. The prize is offered annually and explicitly acknowledges Cochrane's value of criticism, with a view to helping to improve its work, and thus achieve its aim of helping people make well-informed decisions about healthcare by providing the best possible evidence on the effects of healthcare interventions.

Canadian Frailty Network Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship

2017: Awarded to Dr. Aaron Jones for "Investigating temporal associations between home care initiation and emergency department utilization in post-acute older adults".

First Honorary Dr. Carole Marcus Award

2017: Awarded to Dr. Reshma Amin by the International Paediatric Association (IPSA). It is awarded to an outstanding clinician and researcher who was trained by the late Dr. Carole Marcus, a pioneer and visionary in the field of sleep medicine.

Young Investigator Award in Clinical Science

2017: Presented to Dr. Husam Abdel-Qadir by the European Society of Cardiology for "The spectrum of cardiovascular disease after early stage breast cancer: a population-based cohort study."

Physician Research Award for Scientific Accomplishment

2017: Awarded to Dr. Astrid Guttmann by the SickKids Department of Paediatrics. This award recognizes a physician within 10−20 years of appointment at an academic health sciences centre who has generated impactful research in a field of study.

Young Investigator Award

2017: Awarded to Dr. Kelvin Chan by the Division of Medical Oncology, University of Toronto

May Cohen Award for Women Mentors

2017: Awarded to Dr. Gillian Hawker. The award is presented by the Canadian Medical Association to a woman physician who has demonstrated outstanding mentoring.

American Thoracic Society Abstract Scholarship Award

2017: Awarded to Dr. Tetyana Kendzerska for the abstract "Effectiveness and safety of inhaled corticosteroids in elderly individuals with chronic obstructive airway diseases: a population-based study"

Centre for Health Economics Research Fellowship

2017: Awarded to Dr. Claire de Oliveira by the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York. Her research project will be 'Equity in the utilization of psychiatric inpatient care among patients with severe mental illness (SMI) in Ontario, Canada'.

CIHR-IHSPR Article of the Year Award

2017: Tara Gomes received the award for the paper “Sensitivity and specificity of administrative mortality data for identifying prescription opioid-related deaths” published in CMAJ. The award was presented at the 2017 Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research conference in Toronto on May 26.

IHSPR's Article of the Year Award recognizes research published in a peer-reviewed journal that has contributed to the advancement of health services and policy research in Canada.
