Dr. Jill Tinmouth and research team receive grant to improve cancer screening for Indigenous people
A research team led by ICES scientist Dr. Jill Tinmouth has received a five-year $1.5 million grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to examine ways to improve access to screening programs for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers by Indigenous people in Ontario. The research team and Indigenous partners will focus on improving cultural safety in the cancer system, establishing culturally safe communication strategies and exploring shared decision-making processes for cancer screening.
Tinmouth is a physician scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, associate professor in the Department of Medicine and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, and lead scientist of Cancer Care Ontario’s ColonCancerCheck program.
