Topic: Biomarkers and biologicals for dementia: are we ready and can we afford precision medicine?
Learning objectives
- Appreciate advances in biomarker discovery in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, including blood and csf, genetics, and brain imaging modalities.
- Review diagnostic criteria and disease staging based on biomarkers, which enable detection and open the therapeutic window from pre-symptomatic, prodromal to symptomatic disease stages.
- Understand that biomarkers are targets and also clinical trial outcomes and consider societal issues of availability and cost-effectiveness of personalized medicine approaches.
