Topic: Biomarkers and biologicals for dementia: are we ready and can we afford precision medicine?

Learning objectives

  1. Appreciate advances in biomarker discovery in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, including blood and csf, genetics, and brain imaging modalities.
  2. Review diagnostic criteria and disease staging based on biomarkers, which enable detection and open the therapeutic window from pre-symptomatic, prodromal to symptomatic disease stages.
  3. Understand that biomarkers are targets and also clinical trial outcomes and consider societal issues of availability and cost-effectiveness of personalized medicine approaches.
