Arthritis and Related Conditions in Ontario: ICES Research Atlas. 2nd Edition

Share

Arthritis is a leading cause of pain, physical disability and healthcare utilization in Ontario. By 2031, it is estimated that 738,000 Canadians aged 45 to 54, along with 1.4 million aged 55 to 64, will be diagnosed with arthritis.

Arthritis and related conditions stimulate a host of related costs. With more than four million Canadians affected, the attached annual cost is $17.8 billion, followed only by costs associated with cardiovascular disease and more costly than cancer.

Following the 1998 ICES research atlas on arthritis and related conditions, this second edition paints a comprehensive picture of the impact of these conditions in Ontario to 2002 and proposes strategies to meet the growing demand for care and treatment.
