Comparative effectiveness of contemporary and historic treatment of localized prostate cancer
Summary
Project ID: 2017-374/ TRIM 2019 0970 124 000
Principle Investigator: Robert Nam/ Rano Matta
Description: Changes in cancer selection, patient selection, and technological progress coupled with the slow progression of most prostate cancer, makes it difficult to draw conclusions from retrospective studies directly comparing primary treatments to impact contemporary management. Moreover, they often suffer from residual confounding and selection bias. One approach which can providing more meaningful analyses is to compare the effectiveness of contemporary management strategies to historical cohorts receiving primary treatments, eliminating the selection bias and confounding inherent in comparing the two treatments directly. As such this study will evaluate overall survival and prostate cancer related outcomes of contemporary prostate cancer treatment modalities with conventional treatments.
