Asthma places a large burden not only on the individual but also on society, and contributes significantly to healthcare costs. Yet relatively little is known about the burden of asthma in Canada, and in Ontario specifically. This report examines asthma in the Ontario between 1994/95 and 2001/02, by addressing the following questions:
- Who has asthma?
- What is the risk of an individual developing asthma?
- What healthcare resources are being used by people with asthma?
- How much does asthma cost the healthcare system?
- What is the geographical variation of asthma in Ontario?
