Chief Privacy and Legal Officer / Corporate Secretary

Biography

Rosario Cartagena oversees both the Privacy and Legal Office (inclusive of privacy, legal, compliance, enterprise risk management, and audit), as well as the Cybersecurity department. She is also Corporate Secretary to the Board advising on matters related to corporate and responsible artificial intelligence governance.

Rosario has over 20 years of experience working within or alongside health system stakeholders. Rosario has worked in private practice at large national law firms advising on health, governance, and data law related matters. Additionally, she has held roles at government agencies, research ethics boards, as well as health-related Boards, most notably Hospice Palliative Ontario and Health Law in Canada. An avid speaker and writer, Rosario presents regularly on panels related to the intersection of innovation, data governance, and legal reform.

Following the completion of her graduate degree, Rosario was a post-grad intern at the Harvard School of Public Health. In addition to her law degree, Rosario is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) and has a Certificate in Health Law, and LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School. She is an Adjunct Professor at the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law, University of Toronto.
