Biography
Laura Ferreira-Legere is the Senior Manager, Public and Community Engagement, Knowledge Translation at ICES, supporting scientists and project teams to include meaningful, equity-centered public and community engagement in research and analysis. Laura and her team engage in internal and external knowledge sharing and facilitate the work of the ICES Public Advisory Council, prioritizing equity, diversity and inclusion in all operational practices. In addition, Laura and her team lead the implementation of the ICES Guidance Document and Framework for Anti-Racist Approaches to Research and Analytics, providing guidance on the governance and use of race and related administrative data.
For over 15 years, Laura’s career has included working directly in the healthcare system, as well as in academic and non-profit organizations focusing on health research, patient engagement, and knowledge translation. She began her career as a registered nurse on the Orthopedic surgery unit in Saint John, New Brunswick. She has since held professional roles in clinical research and in nursing best practice guideline development at the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree at York University in Toronto and was awarded the 2015 Nursing Thesis Award for her Qualitative Thesis.
