Alene Toulany, MD MSc FRCPC is an adolescent medicine specialist and assistant professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Toulany joined the faculty in 2014 and transitioned into a clinician investigator role in 2020. As as associate scientist track investigator at the SickKids Research Institute, Dr. Toulany has established her research program investigating 1) health system performance and quality of care in transition from paediatric to adult care services and 2) health outcomes of youth with chronic physical and mental health conditions, including obesity and eating disorders. Dr. Toulany’s overarching methodological expertise is in health services research and the use of large health and administrative databases to answer important clinical and health system and policy relevant questions. In her clinical practice, Dr. Toulany co-leads the Adolescent Medicine Consultation Clinics and Service, which aims to improve access to specialized consultative adolescent healthcare services for youth with complex care needs. She also provides care to adolescents with obesity and eating disorders.
