Dr. Clare Atzema, a senior core scientist at ICES and a clinician-scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute where she practices as an ER doctor, discusses her recent study published in CMAJ. It showed that patients at risk of stroke who are prescribed anticoagulant medications at the ER when being treated for AFib are more likely to fill those prescriptions, and to continue using them over the long-term, compared to those discharged to their family care provider or cardiologist for follow-up.
