Senior Adjunct Scientist (Full Status) ICES UofT Chronic Disease & Pharmacotherapy Research Program

Biography

Dr. Lipscombe is a senior adjunct scientist at ICES. She is also a professor in the Department of Medicine and an associate professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at University of Toronto, a clinician scientist and staff physician in the Division of Endocrinology at Women's College Hospital, and a research scientist at Women's College Research Institute. After completing a BSc in psychology at Concordia University and an MD at McGill University, Dr. Lipscombe completed postgraduate training in internal medicine and endocrinology at University of Toronto. She then earned a Master's degree in clinical epidemiology from University of Toronto.

Dr. Lipscombe has developed a successful research program that focuses on the care and outcomes of women with chronic endocrine conditions. In particular, her research focuses on the prevention of diabetes in women with gestational diabetes, the complex relationship between type 2 diabetes and breast cancer, and the improvement of health service delivery for diabetes management. Dr. Lipscombe has published over 35 peer-reviewed papers, including first-authored papers in leading journals such as JAMA and Lancet, and her research has received national and international media attention. Recently, she was awarded the prestigious New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Her research program is funded by grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Diabetes Association, and the Lawson Foundation.
