Over the years, she has held several senior leadership roles, including Senior Core Scientist, Program Leader, and Chief Science Officer.

A Staff Physician and Senior Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and a professor of paediatrics at the University of Toronto, Dr. Guttmann holds cross-appointments in the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. As a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, her research focuses on improving health outcomes through population-based studies, with an emphasis on health equity, community engagement, and evidence-informed policy.

“Astrid’s appointment as CEO reflects her exceptional leadership, long-standing commitment to ICES’ mission, and compelling strategic vision,” said Helen Angus, Chair of the ICES Board of Directors. “With growing demand for evidence to support decision-making and improved care delivery, Astrid is uniquely positioned to lead ICES into the future and to expand reach and impact of our data-driven insights.”

As CEO, Dr. Guttmann will advance ICES’ role as a global leader in health data analytics and research, strengthening its commitment to innovation while helping to shape a more responsive and evidence-informed health system.

“I am honoured to take on the role of CEO at ICES,” said Dr. Guttmann. “ICES plays a critical role as a trusted data steward, and we have a unique opportunity to harness existing and new data in novel and innovative ways to drive better health outcomes. I look forward to working with our talented teams and partners to build on our strong foundation and continue delivering research and analytics that makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”

Dr. Guttmann’s research portfolio includes major studies on immigrant and refugee health, prenatal opioid exposure, and the integration of care for children and youth with complex medical and mental health needs. Her work has contributed to shaping policies and programs that address social determinants of health and help improve outcomes for children, youth and their families.

ICES looks forward to Dr. Guttmann’s continued contributions in this new leadership role.
