Julio Furlan

Dr. Julio C. Furlan is a staff neurologist and a clinician investigator in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the SCI Rehabilitation Program at the Lyndhurst Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network, a consulting neurologist in the Neurology Services at the Altum Health, University Health Network, and an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Toronto.

He is a trained head and neck surgeon from Brazil, who subsequently completed a residency training in Adult Neurology at University of Toronto in June 2014, followed by completion of a two-year clinical fellowship in Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and the University of Toronto in June 2016. Dr. Furlan’s research has been focused on outcome measures (including clinical assessments, neuroimaging analysis, and neurophysiological assessments), predictors of outcome (including age, sex/gender, and secondary health conditions after injury), and use of neuromodulation therapies in the field of spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. In addition, he has interest and expertise in clinical epidemiology and health economics.

Dr. Furlan received multiple scholarship and fellowship awards from the University of Toronto in four consecutive years of his medical residency training in Adult Neurology (July 2010 to June 2014), including: Joseph M. West Memorial Fund, Miriam Neveren Memorial Award, Chisholm Memorial Fellowship, William H. Fenwick Research Fellowship, Edward Christie Stevens Fellowship in Medicine, Javenthey Soobiah Scholarship, and Nellie L. Farthing Fellowship.
