Amer Johri

Dr. Johri is a proofessor at Queens University, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. He received level III echocardiography training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University. He is the director and founder of the Cardiovascular Imaging Network at Queen’s (CINQLab.com). CINQ focuses on developing novel methods for heart disease diagnosis and treatment and clinical innovation in point of care ultrasound (POCUS) and vascular ultrasound.

Dr. Johri’s research has focused on the use of carotid ultrasound to diagnosing and predicting coronary artery disease. He has recently been awarded a multi-centre CIHR, as PI, to assess the clinical efficacy of carotid ultrasound combined with stress echocardiography (CIRCE Trial). He was also awarded a multi-centre CIHR, as PI, to assess the implementation of remote POCUS teaching to geographically remote regions (ARCTICA Trial).

Dr. Johri currently serves as the Vice President of the Canadian Society of Echocardiography. He has also served as an executive member of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) Standards and Guidelines Committee, ASE Board Member and Chair of the ASE Circulation and Vascular Ultrasound Council (CAVUS). He chaired the ASE Carotid Plaque Quantification Guideline. He led Canada’s first guideline for the cardiovascular screening of athletes. Dr. Johri recently chaired the ASE’s statement on the use of POCUS for COVID-19 and co-authored the ASE guideline document for POCUS and Critical Care Echocardiography training.

He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography where he serves as a Social Media Consultant and leads the JASE Podcast Series.

He is founder of the POCUS Journal and has a keen interest in enhancing cardiovascular ultrasound quality and education.

His future research direction is towards incorporation of artificial intelligence and virtual care enhanced imaging.
