Submitting Your Request

ICES Data & Analytic Services (DAS) provides researchers, students, policy makers and knowledge users with:

  • Access to research-ready linked health administrative data and analytic tools through secure virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) over the internet
  • Support and advice on health administrative dataset creation
  • Analytics and reports based on ICES data

Accessing ICES Data

If you are a publicly-funded, not-for-profit researcher, student, policy maker or knowledge user who wants to obtain and analyze ICES data to answer a research question, you may submit a request to the DAS staff for access to data. DAS staff will contact you to determine the feasibility, timelines and cost of the requested data.

DAS staff work with requestors to design a research-ready data extract from the ICES data repository using an algorithm that de-identifies data in a way that provides researchers with individual-level data while meeting all privacy standards. Requestors are provided with access to the linked, de-identified data extract on a secured virtual research environment where they can perform analyses and create reports. To ensure privacy policy compliance, linked data cannot be removed or copied from the virtual environment.

Analytic Services and Reports

DAS can also provide analytic services and/or reports based on analysis of ICES data (i.e., in cases where the requestor is not seeking data). For example, as part of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Applied Health Research Question (AHRQ) process, knowledge users from across the Ontario health system can propose questions for ICES consideration and possible response.
