Project title: Sex disparities in access to care and treatment outcomes for retinal interventions in Ontario, Canada

Principle Investigator: Radha Kohly/ Michael Balas

Description: Despite the high prevalence and significant impact of retinal diseases, recent evidence suggests the existence of sex-based disparities in the management of these conditions. The proposed study will employ a data-driven approach using longitudinal ICES health administrative data, encompassing patient demographics, procedural codes, clinical outcomes, and system utilization metrics. The team will analyze data from adult patients who have undergone retinal interventions including various forms of vitreoretinal surgery, laser procedures, and intraocular injections. The cohort will be stratified by sex to compare access and outcomes.
