Major upper extremity amputations: a health care cost analysis study
Summary
Project ID: 2023-1091/ TRIM 2024 0970 377 000
Principle Investigator: Siba Haykal
Description: Amputations at the level of the radiocarpal joint and proximal are defined as major upper extremity amputations, and they are predominantly of traumatic origin. These injuries are debilitating and may require several surgical interventions throughout the patient’s life. They significantly impact the daily activities of the affected patient, thus placing a burden on the healthcare system for treatment and rehabilitation. In this study, these injuries will be grouped based on their outcomes and analyzed in terms of their treatment costs. The goal is to compile Canadian data and provide a basis for the development of future directions for the management of these injuries.
