Project ID: 2023-1058/ 2025 0970 399 000
Project title: Impact of False Positive Tests on Medical Trust and Preventive Care Utilization: Evidence from Newborn Screenings (IRCC-DAS-2023-004 (P))
Principle Investigator: Alex Hoagland
Description: The research question will use exogenous variation in the likelihood of a false positive report at the newborn level to identify treatment effects. Outcome variables include adherence to preventive visits and vaccinations for the newborn, sick visits and ED visits for the newborn, and overall healthcare utilization for the birthing parent and spouse. Difference-in-differences and instrumental variables regression methods will be employed as causal inference techniques. Results will be stratified by patient demographics and marginalization (based on geography) to identify potential impacts on health equity outcomes.
