Toronto, ON, September 29, 2025 — The ICES Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Astrid Guttmann as Interim Chief Executive Officer of ICES, effective November 15, 2025.

Dr. Guttmann has been a driving force in ICES’ scientific leadership for over two decades. She joined ICES in 2001 as a research fellow and has since held key roles including Senior Core Scientist, Program Leader, and Chief Science Officer. Her research focuses on improving child health through population-based studies that inform health system programs and policies, with a particular emphasis on health equity.

In addition to her leadership at ICES, Dr. Guttmann is a staff physician and Senior Scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and a professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto, with cross-appointments in the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

“Dr. Guttmann’s expertise, collaborative spirit, and commitment to evidence-based health system improvement make her an ideal leader for ICES during this transition,” said Helen Angus, Chair of the ICES Board of Directors. “We are confident she will continue to advance ICES’ mission and maintain the organization’s strong momentum.”

Dr. Guttmann’s current research includes a large-scale evaluation of Canadian refugee resettlement models, projects related to prenatal opioid use, and work on system integration for children with chronic medical and mental health conditions. She is also a council member of the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health and serves on several international research advisory bodies.

“It is an honour to step into the role of Interim CEO,” said Dr. Astrid Guttmann. “ICES has a unique and vital role in supporting data-driven decision-making across the health system. I look forward to working with our talented teams and partners to continue delivering impactful research that improves health outcomes for all Ontarians.”

The ICES Board thanks the leadership team and staff for their continued dedication and support during this transition.
