Chris Verschoor

Adjunct Scientist ICES North Life Stage Research Program

Biography

Chris Verschoor is the HSN Foundation Research Chair in Healthy Aging at the Health Sciences North Research Institute. He is also affiliated with the Division of Medical Sciences at NOSM University, the Department of Medicine at McMaster University, and the School of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Laurentian University. His research program focuses on better understanding the determinants of poor health and immune decline in older adults. He combines population health and biomedical methodologies to test specific hypotheses regarding the mechanisms of adverse health-related outcomes and to identify potential biological indicators of healthy (or unhealthy) aging. Characterizing trajectories of health and complex clinical syndromes, such as frailty, is a major area of focus, particularly how they relate to vaccine effectiveness, respiratory infection severity, cancer treatment outcomes, and the need for urgent care.
