Avery Nathens

Avery Nathens, MD, PhD, FRCS(C), was appointed chief of surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in 2012. Previously, he was the director of trauma and the division head of general surgery at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. Dr. Nathens is a professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and holds appointments in the university's Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and Institute of Medical Sciences. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers focusing on trauma system design and implementation.
