ICES researchers awarded over $1 million by CIHR to study dementia care
Congratulations to Dr. Susan Bronskill, ICES senior scientist and Life Stage Research Program Lead, and the Canadian Dementia Health System Performance Team on being awarded over $1 million by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to study the quality of dementia care in Canada. Besides helping to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, the team will train the next generation of researchers and collaborate with researchers across Canada and internationally.
Dr. Bronskill studies transitions between healthcare sectors and focusses on improving quality of care, medication use, health services utilization and healthcare outcomes particularly in people living with dementia from Alzheimer’s disease or other causes, older women and people residing in continuing care settings. She has held several salary awards including a CIHR New Investigator Award in aging.
ICES scientist Dr. Dallas Seitz, co-lead, is the Chief of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health where he also holds the Peter and Shelagh Godsoe Chair in Late-Life Mental Health Research. His research includes the evaluation of the safety and efficacy of treatments for geriatric mental health conditions, and knowledge translation in geriatric mental health.
