ICES brings together the best and brightest scientific talent. Many of our scientists are internationally recognized in their fields and receive national and international awards and recognition for their important work.

  • Order of Ontario

    2016: Dr. Mehran Anvari was appointed to the Order of Ontario for his contributions to the field of robotic surgery.

  • Canada Research Chair

    2016: Dr. Jennifer Walker was awarded a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Health.

  • American Society of Nephrology Young Investigator Award

    2016: Awarded to Dr. Amit Garg. Every year, the Young Investigator Award is presented to one individual 45 years of age or younger “with an outstanding record of achievement and creativity in basic or patient-oriented research related to the functions and diseases of the kidney.”

  • Thomson Reuters’ 2016 Highly Cited Researchers

    2016: Dr. Jeremy Grimshaw was selected by Thomson Reuters as one the most highly cited researchers of 2016. These reports rank among the top 1% most cited works for their subject field and year of publication, earning them the mark of exceptional impact.

  • Innovation Fund Award for Mental Health and Geriatric Care

    2016: Awarded to Dr. Simone Vigod by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Ontario Medical Association at the Innovation Fund Showcase. Dr. Vigod received the award for her tool to identify psychiatric inpatients at risk for early rehospitalisation, called READMIT.

  • Innovation Award

    2016: Awarded to the CHARM team, including Drs. Matthew Cheung and Simron Singh, by the Cancer Quality Council of Ontario (CQCO) for their software's positive impact for health care providers and the patient experience. Read more.

  • W. Victor Johnston Award

    2016: Awarded to Dr. Rick Glazier by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The award recognizes a renowned Canadian or international family medicine leader for continuous and enduring contributions to the specialty of family medicine in Canada or abroad.

  • Presidential Scholar Award

    2016: Awarded to Dr. Hannah Wunsch by the American Society of Anesthesiologists for her outstanding career in research.

  • Fellow Canadian Academy of Health Sciences

    2016: Dr. Nancy Baxter named 2016 Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Election to fellowship in the Academy is considered one of the highest honours in the Canadian health sciences community.
