Payments to Ontario Physicians from Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Sources: Update 2005/06 to 2022/23
In Canada, payments to physicians constitute approximately 20% of provincial healthcare budgets. ICES has reported on estimates of public payments to Ontario physicians from multiple sources by specialty and specialty group in 2012, 2017, 2019 and 2024. All reports examine variations between specialty groups and considers the impact of changes in the different models of physician payment, including fee for service, capitation, and alternate payment plans. The latest 2024 report stratifies these results by physician sex.
