On June 30, Governor-General David Johnston announced that ICES board member Dr. Harriet MacMillan was named as a member of the Order of Canada for her efforts as a psychiatrist and pediatrician who seeks to prevent, reduce and respond to family violence. This is one of Canada’s highest honours, in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the country.
Dr. MacMillan has been a member of the ICES Board of Directors since 2013. She has made important contributions to ICES, most recently as chair of our scientific advisory committee. Her research is focused on violence towards children and women, and she is a professor in the departments of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences and Pediatrics at McMaster University.
