Toni Zhong is a plastic reconstructive surgeon at the University Health Network, and an associate professor in the Departments of Surgery and Surgical Oncology. She is also an associate professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. To complement her clinical expertise in the field of post-mastectomy breast reconstruction (PMBR), Dr. Zhong's research aims to improve women's access to optimized techniques of post-mastectomy reconstruction through clinical trials and health services research. She takes a three-pronged approach to her research program that includes (a) population-based health services research to identify barriers to PMBR access, (b) evaluation of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) following different PMBR techniques through clinical trials, and (c) identification of novel models of decision support to promote high-quality shared decision-making for PMBR. She also plans to focus on knowledge translation and dissemination of her clinical research findings into improved health care access to PMBR for breast cancer survivors.
