Summary
This research project seeks to analyze the emergency department usage costs of those with epilepsy to identify visits that could potentially be avoided with community-based epilepsy education and support programs. This research was brought about through the experiences of community epilepsy agencies that point to the need for patient education on when seizures should be considered medical emergencies. The evidence gathered from this project will be used to demonstrate the costs of emergency department use and how they could be offset through proposed funding to epilepsy support and education programs.
