Research Question/Objectives: The incidence of known Lyme disease infections in Canada has been rising due to the migration of the Ixodes scapularis tick from the United States. This study aims to describe the incidence, patient characteristics, treatment patterns and healthcare resource utilization of Lyme disease in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada
Primary objectives:
- Assess incidence of Lyme disease in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada, overall, and by patient characteristics (age, sex) and public health region, if feasible
Secondary objectives:
- Describe demographic and clinical characteristics (symptoms and estimation of clinical stage) of patients with Lyme disease in Ontario and Manitoba
- Describe the treatment patterns and healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) of Lyme disease patients in Ontario and Manitoba, stratified by patient characteristics (age, sex), if feasible
Exploratory objectives:
- If feasible, identify and describe patients with persistent symptoms of Lyme disease in Ontario and Manitoba
- If feasible, describe the demographic and clinical characteristics, treatment patterns, and HCRU of patients with Lyme disease in Ontario and Manitoba by clinical stage and number of reinfections
