Research Question/Objectives: The effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines against symptomatic infection, hospitalization, and death have been widely demonstrated. However, there is limited evidence on the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on outcomes such as healthcare resource utilization and subsequent costs to the healthcare system. This study will help to fill this knowledge gap and better understand the burden of illness of COVID-19 in Ontario, Canada.
Primary Objectives:
- Describe all-cause HCRU and direct healthcare costs for patients with a positive COVID-19 PCR test in Ontario, Canada
- Compare all-cause HCRU and direct healthcare costs for patients with a positive COVID-19 PCR test in Ontario, Canada, by COVID-19 vaccination status, time since last COVID-19 vaccine dose, and time since last positive COVID-19 PCR test
- Compare all-cause HCRU and direct healthcare costs for patients prior to and following a positive COVID-19 PCR test in Ontario, Canada
Exploratory objective:
- If feasible, compare all-cause HCRU and direct healthcare costs for COVID-19 vaccinated patients with a positive COVID-19 PCR test in Ontario, Canada, by vaccine type (e.g., mRNA, non-mRNA, combination of mRNA and non-mRNA)
Results: Completed
