Project ID: 2020-021/2021 0900 840 001
Type of Response: Research report or technical brief
Knowledge User: St. Michael’s Hospital
ICES Scientists: Flora Matheson, Lesley Plumptre
Summary: St. Michael’s Hospital is interested in discovering the characteristics of patients who have come in contact with the criminal justice system and the services they receive. Those with criminal justice involvement tend to be disproportionately impacted by health issues. The aim of this study is to identify the ways in which such individuals interact with the hospital and develop a plan for care delivery to a population that is often stigmatized. These data will be used by different hospital service leaders, such as discharge planners and mental health service planners in order to understand community level barriers and take steps to dismantle them. Other purposes of this study involve assisting with outreach initiatives and the development of training programs.
