Biography
Dr Andrea Gershon is a respirologist and Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and ICES. She is a CIHR-funded researcher with hundreds of publications, including some in the top medical journals such as JAMA and the Lancet. She has been invited to share her findings at universities and hospitals around the world; and her work has been recognized by global media including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Gershon’s award winning research and knowledge translation program uses ‘Big Data’ to learn from the real-world experiences of people living with lung disease with a focus on vulnerable groups. She has conducted clinical studies of remote clinical monitoring and wearables in people with respiratory disease for over a decade. Dr. Gershon’s findings have been mobilized into practical improvements that have benefited millions of patients. Her research has informed clinical guidelines; led to more resources being dedicated to address respiratory disease; formed the basis of Canada’s respiratory disease surveillance system; and informed policy and patient, hospital and health district programs in Canada and globally.
