The Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) board chair Dr. Brian Golden is pleased to announce the appointments of Mr. John Callaghan, Mrs. Pat Mandy, The Honourable Hugh Segal, and Mr. Gabriel Sékaly to the ICES Board of Directors.
Mr. John Callaghan is a Toronto-based partner in the law firm of Gowling, Lafleur, Henderson LLP. Mr. Callaghan practices in the area of civil and commercial litigation. Mr. Callaghan has been at the forefront of many civil justice initiatives and is presently a member of the Civil Rules Committee. Mr. Callaghan is a frequent lecturer on issues of procedure and trial advocacy, including having been an instructor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. He is a director of the Advocates’ Society and is also the co-author of Class Actions – Law and Practice, a leading Canadian text on class action.
Mrs. Pat Mandy is the chief executive officer of the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and an associate member of the Graduate Faculty, Clinical Health Sciences, McMaster University. She is recognized as a leader in healthcare administration, the nursing profession, and the community. She served previously as vice-president, patient services at Hamilton Health Sciences. Mrs. Mandy holds a Masters of Public Administration and is a Certified Health Service Executive.
The Honourable Hugh Segal is a member of the Senate of Canada with significant and widespread experience in government, both in Ontario and federally. He has served as chief of staff to former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and as associate cabinet secretary to former Ontario Premier William Davis, and has twice been a candidate for election to Parliament. Senator Segal recently served as president and chief executive officer of the Institute for Research on Public Policy, and is currently a senior fellow in the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University and chair of both the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies and the Walter Duncan Gordon Foundation. Senator Segal has also authored a number of books, primarily focused on how governments and political parties work.
Mr. Gabriel Sékaly is currently the executive director of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC). He served previously in a number of senior positions in the Government of Ontario, including Associate Deputy Minister of Finance. Mr. Sékaly has extensive expertise and experience in all aspects of fiscal and financial policy, fiscal planning, expenditure management and reporting, the stewardship of financial resources, risk management and accountability. In addition to serving as Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Sékaly’s prior roles include: chair, Integrated Financial Information System Project (Ontario); Board of Directors, Ontario Strategic Infrastructure Financing Authority; and adjunct professor and Amethyst Fellow, School of Policy Studies, Queen’s University.
