Summary: Adult Ontarians with developmental disabilities have difficulty finding and maintaining appropriate community residential or living arrangements that address their significant mental health needs. Agencies that provide community housing are making some progress toward creating living environments that meet this population’s complex needs, instead of remaining in hospital as “alternate level of care.” The information on potential cost savings for this high-support community may show how cost efficiencies can be obtained through better use of scarce healthcare resources.
