This threshold serves as a useful time-point for identifying patients who require closer surveillance,&#x201d; says <a href=\"\/ices-scientists\/bheeshma-ravi\/\">Dr. Bheeshma Ravi<\/a>, lead author on the study, adjunct scientist at ICES and staff surgeon at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\nTotal knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one the most commonly performed elective procedures in the world, with more than 600,000 TKAs performed annually in North America.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn this study of 92,343 patients undergoing primary TKAs, the average surgery lasted 106 minutes. The researchers compared patients whose surgery was longer than 100 minutes to those whose surgery was under 100 minutes.
